What do all living things have in common?

Living things have several characteristics that distinguish them from non-living things. 1. Living things grow in size, reproduce and are able to repair themselves. Repair worn or injured parts Grow in size Produce offspring

2. Living things require energy.

3 Living things respond to changes in their environment. Animals try to escape from predators. Responses do not always cause motion. Some responses occur within the living thing and are not directly observable. e.g. an animal’s metabolism may slow down when an animal is cold hungry or thirsty which affects the bodily functions and not the motion. Plants grow in the direction of moist soil…and the sun.

4. Living things have a life span.
