Objectives for Today  Understanding TWC’s role in career fairs  Using the TWC as a multi-layered career fair resource  Our perspective of what works well

Our Mission  Using TWC resources to bridge the gap between education and workforce exploration for students, teachers, and Counselors that aligns with the Foundation High School Program and workforce needs.

Our 2-Step Approach BEFORE the career fairDURING the career fair  Classroom/Auditorium presentations Reaching some or ALL of your students  Career Fair Booth Providing fun, educational, and interactive experiences

More to come on that later! Regional labor market data Career-specific data Industry-specific career options Career selfie photo booth Career info trading cards Career Fair Booths

TWC - a Multi-Layered Resource Select your partnersInvite those partners  Understand regional labor market trends and needs Supply relevant choices to students  Discovering who your local TWC partners are Get help with identifying local employers

Regional Labor Market Info  Use TWC software to discover Who is hiring Growing industries and occupations High-demand jobs High-wage jobs  OR…use local TWC offices for this help

Local Partners  Let us show you how to identify: Where your local WDA offices are located Who you should be talking to at the WDAs  WDA staff can also help you: Connect with local employers Participate in your career fairs as well!

Working with Colleges  College recruiters are great resources for talking to your students about: College prep College admission steps College-specific degree plans and programs  But don’t forget to include College-level, workforce programs staff

Our Career Fair Observations What WorksOpportunities to Improve  Organization is key The better the plan, the better the interaction and outcomes  No research could lead to loss of focus On multiple levels of planning and interaction

What is Working  Guided/Supervised Groups With captive audience In separate rooms (or organized group settings)  Attendance of region-specific occupations Relevant representation Familiar employers/occupations Familiar colleges and workforce programs

Room for Improvement  Too many participants without thoughtful involvement  Students attend without supervision or focus  Students not having considered career interests prior to event  Students who attend without accountability requirements  Prevent disorganization
