Disabled American Veterans Department of Alabama Fund Raising Training

“Made up exclusively of men and women disabled in our nation’s defense, the Disabled American Veterans is dedicated to one, single purpose — building better lives for all of our nation’s disabled veterans and their families. This mission is carried forward by: Providing free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service and provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other agencies of government; Providing outreach concerning its program services to the American people generally, and to disabled veterans and their families specifically; Representing the interests of disabled veterans, their families, their widowed spouses and their orphans before Congress, the White House and the Judicial Branch, as well as state and local government; Extending DAV’s mission of hope into the communities where these veterans and their families live through a network of state-level Departments and local Chapters; and Providing a structure through which disabled veterans can express their compassion for their fellow veterans through a variety of volunteer programs.” DAV MISSION STATEMENT

Fundraising Fund-raising is a necessary evil in many organizations. While the task of raising funds is one that requires an extensive amount of effort, the money raised during these drives is often necessary for an organization's survival or its support of worthy initiatives.

Fund Raising Planning? Fund Raising Planning? To make your fund-raiser a more profitable one, dedicate time to the planning portion of the process and increase the chances that your fund-raiser is successful from the start.

Fund Raising Ideas? Fund Raising Ideas? Collect fundraising brochures from various local retailers. Keep them in a notebook for easy reference. Call the leaders of local organizations such as the Parent and Teacher Association, Boy Scouts, Little League and Rotary. Ask them for fundraising ideas. Look up fundraising ideas on the Internet. Enter "fundraising" into your Internet search engine, and you'll get lots of information. Fund-raising.com is a good place to start.

Fund Raising Ideas? Fund Raising Ideas? Visit your local library. Ask whether they keep fundraising information on hand. Ask friends and co-workers for fundraising information and ideas. Conduct a brainstorming session with your organization's leaders. Write down any creative, original ideas that are suggested. Weed out fundraisers that violate the rules of your organization or jeopardize your nonprofit status.

Fund Raising Ideas? Fund Raising Ideas? Any Unique Ideas?

Fund Raising Planning? Fund Raising Planning? Decide upon a fund raiser type and date. Consider the season as well as the organization's past track record with fund raisers. Fund raisers with which your organization has previously experienced success, you improve your chances of success again. Gather volunteer workers. While you can have a solo- manned fund-raiser, doing so makes the task significantly more difficult than it needs to be.

Fund Raising Planning? Fund Raising Planning? Set a goal. Prepare a plan for tracking the fund-raiser's success. Arrange a meeting to launch the fund-raiser. Develop media plan.

Fund Raising Conclusion? Fund Raising Conclusion? Jumping at several small opportunities may get us there more quickly than waiting for one big one to come along. ~ Hugh Allen
