What is it about? In different countries like Italy, Japan and the United States, this specialized type of software is known as “Multimedia Kiosk”, as the user and its computer interact to consult information and to obtain a service; however, in general terms, we may say that it is an “interactive module of information and lookup”.

Services Offered The interactive module of information and lookup could be considered as a communications system, since it offers two different services: - Information - Lookup

…Information Service To inform people, at an expo or event, about the general information on products or services that a company offers.

…Lookup Service For instance, in a library, the user may lookup in the module the index-card system contained in a data base available in a computer, to obtain specific information.

Who gets the benefit? Either the user, company or institution gets directly the benefit, as the first one shall be able to easily obtain the accurate information needed, while the other one attracts the attention from potential customers. At the same time, the company corporate image is strongly projected.

Design Reasons At present, the use of computers on different areas requires specialized furniture that supports the interaction between user and computer equipments, in an easy, ergonomic manner. General use of computer systems is a recent phenomenon, that is why this kind of products have not been developed in the domestic market; for this reason, we designed this project in order to cover the needs of users and to take the strategic advantage of being pioneers in this area.

Who acquires it? The interactive module of information and lookup is focused on those commercial business that require to offer their products or services at: Expos or events Interactive museums, to display different issues, in a clear and easy manner. Universities where students could consult data bases, or make academic arrangements. Libraries and specialized stores, to consult catalogs and index- card systems in a data base Banks, when a customer needs to know information on his/her statements of account Any activity, where prompt interaction between user and computer is needed

Who uses it? Users may be classified into two types: Those who interact with the kiosk through a software (possible company customers), and Those who make possible the adequate kiosk operation (technicians, programmers, or supervisors of the company represented by the kiosk).
