Common Core Implementation Plan Whittier City School District Board of Education Meeting April 7, 2014

WCSD Common Core Vision The Whittier City School District will assume full implementation of the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts, Mathematics, English Language Development, and Literacy in History Social Science and Science. WCSD will facilitate ongoing learning opportunities for teachers to engage them in developing research based instructional practices to ensure continuous student growth. Schools will foster collaboration by providing supportive structures and settings to enrich Professional Learning Communities focused on teaching and learning. To prepare students for a 21 st Century job market, classroom experiences will be designed to encourage student creativity, increase meaningful discourse and communication, develop critical thinking skills, while providing opportunities for problem solving and collaboration, engaging students by means of technological resources and high quality materials.
