e-services GRIDS FOR PUBLIC SERVICES The national computing power can be built based on emerging computing technology paradigm: the Grid computing. There will be many PC’s at the public access points and many servers of Public Internet Nodes. These computers are to be connected by Internet and the expected utilization rate is not high.

e-services GRIDS FOR PUBLIC SERVICES Therefore, these PC’s will provide a huge opportunity to build virtual supercomputers. These supercomputers can help to improve the content provision on the PIN itself, but can also help other o social, o economic, o technical and scientific areas’ development. Once the powerful supercomputers can provide software services online, it can also provide cheap PC’s for the people in low income rural areas. This will help to bridge the digital divide.

e-services APPLICATIONS AREA The project is focusing on forming regional research teams that are engaged in elaboration large scale applications of common regional interest: Seismology VO Meteorology VO Environmental VO The work programme envisages analysis of the mentioned VOs requirements, their gridification and run-time support of the target applications. These three strategic Virtual Organisations will bring together users across the region within a common research space, enabling them to share data, applications, tools and results of their work.

e-services Tasks distribution among participants from Moldova (1) RENAM is responsible for NGI development and its sustainable operation, extension of the National Grid infrastructure by installation of new clusters and their inclusion into common Grid segment of Moldova and into the SEE-GRID infrastructure.

e-services Tasks distribution among participants from Moldova (2) FRT TUM is hosting grid-clusters, assists in gridification of applications and cooperates with a significant number of universities and centers from different countries, participate in SEE-GRID-SCI project as third party behind RENAM Association.

e-services Tasks distribution among participants from Moldova (3) IGS ASM provides contributions on real-time monitoring of earthquakes and development of regional monitoring capacities, implementation of real-time seismic data processing and real-time data exchange at regional and international level.

e-services Tasks distribution among participants from Moldova (4) SHMS contributes to the environmental VO by testing and deployment of GreenView application and Meteo VO applications. The service infrastructure and specialists are involved into MD- Grid JRU scientific research and production grid activities in requirements definition, input data provision and interpretation of results on national, regional and international levels.

e-services Seismology VO Following applications were identified for the seismology VO:  Seismic Risk Assessment  Massive Digital Seismological Signal Processing with the Wavelet Analysis  Numerical Modelling of Mantle Convection Seismology virtual organization involves researchers from FYR of Macedonia, Moldova, Bulgaria, Albania, Hungary, Greece and Turkey. The partnership is coordinated by TUBITAK (Turkey).

e-services Meteorology VO Meteorology VO involves researchers from Greece, Serbia, Moldova, Montenegro, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The partnership is coordinated by the National Observatory of Athens (NOA). There are two sets of applications :  Regional scale Multi-model, Multi-analysis ensemble forecasting system.  Study of the interaction of airflow with complex terrain. The results produced within the meteorology VO will allow the meteorological entities participating in the project to assess the probability of a particular weather event to occur and to provide this information to the authorities, the general public, etc, in order to help them to make the necessary decisions based on this probabilistic information. Special focus will be given at the SEE-wide scale where detailed forecasts are necessary for the protection of life and property.

e-services Environmental VO Environmental VO bring together scientists and research institutions, working in the domains of Environmental modelling, Geomagnetism, Environmental security, Environment evolution supervision and impact of climate-related events in the SEE region. Environmental VO covers the following main applications set:  Modelling System for Emergency Response to the Release of Harmful Substances in the Atmosphere (MSERRHSA)  Monte Carlo Sensitivity Analysis for Environmental Systems (MCSAES)  Multi-scale Atmospheric Composition Modelling (MSACM)  Regional Modelling of the Geomagnetism  Environment oriented Satellite Data Processing (ESIP) - GreenView RENAM, FRT TUM and State Hydrometeorological Service of Moldova supports pilot application for the ESIP/GreenView development, platform testing and deployment.

e-services CONCLUSIONS Grid computing technologies and infrastructure are capable to significantly improve basic parameters of the Quality of Public Electronic Services SEE-GRID-SCI project helps to deploy a sustainable Grid infrastructure, which, coupled with human networking activities is of particular societal, educational, and political importance to the SEE region, including Moldova.
