The Bible is the most popular selling book in the world. We refer to the stories in the Bible as SCRIPTURE There are approximately 773,692 words in the entire Bible. It is a book that reveals the origin, mission, and destiny of man. It is very important for us as Catholics to have a basic understanding of the Bible.

O It is a Library made up of 73 Books. O About 40 writers were involved. O It covers more than 1600 years of history, though it is not a history book.

Textbooks: Be With Me The Bible: Our Story Turn to page 214 – 216 Focus: Library of books… The Bible!

Bible in a minute! O O Let’s watch that again!

HANDOUT:

The Bible breakdown… The Bible is not a novel. It’s a collection of writings that were written by various people of God over the centuries. Some of the Bible writings are recorded history… Some are actual poetry or songs… Some are actual prophecy… Some are actual letters… Some books are very long… Some are very short…

The Bible is made up of 73 Books, but they are not arranged in the order that the events happened. The canon of Sacred Scripture is defined by the Catholic Church as 46 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament.

Use Scripture as a spiritual source of strength and prayer… Scripture deals with the ultimate questions of life and offers a religious understanding of these questions based on the formative events in the history of God’s people.

BIBLE WORK… O Read the first story in the Bible! O Genesis 1– 2:4 “Six days of Creation and the Sabbath”

Blank Paper: “Creation Story” Write this in the middle of your paper: The Creation Story Genesis 1-2 :4 Separate and label the seven days around the title. Draw pictures (in each day) to represent what God created on each day.

What to draw for each day…. Day One: Day/Night Day Two: Sky Day Three: Sea/Earth (plants, trees…) Day Four: Moon (with stars)/Sun Day Five: Sea Creatures/Birds Day Six: Animals/Humans Day Seven: God Rested…Blessed Day (Remember to label each day!)
