Educational Resources A Guide to My Favorite Educational Resources Susan Huddleston EDUC210: Instruction Technologies

Smithsonian Education The Smithsonian Education website is filled with information and activities of any topic that you are interested in. It has sections for educators, families, and students. In the educators section, it gives you resources and instructions for teaching on specific topics. It also has live webcast that you can use in class. In the students section, they can select a topic and it gives them information on the topic and has interactive games that they can play.

The National Oceanic and Atmosphere Adminstration This website is great for educators of students of all ages. They offer resources on topics from weather systems and patterns along to ocean acidification. They also offer opportunities for students such as scholarships, interships, fellowships, as well as special opportunities.

Turtle Diary Turtle Diary is a fun and exciting online playground for kids, from toddlers to 5th grade. It has games and videos for each age group. Kids can do experiments with sound waves, floating eggs, hot air balloons, and defying gravity. It also offers topics like English language, phonics, math, science, and sports to name a few. And best of all, it's free!

Fuel the Brain Fuel the Brain is a free resource for elementary educators. It consists of interactives, games, printables, mini-books and teacher guides. Students may play games, read, and use online interactives.

FunFonix Fun Fonix is a great resource for customized phonic worksheets and online games. You can also purchase products such as games and books. One of the selling points is that it is great for all ages. The contents can be used by preschoolers as well as in adult literacy programs.

Illuminations Illuminations is a great resource for Math. It provides lessons and interactives for the students. Students may play games and solve brain teasers. Best of all, it's free!

Story Bird Story Bird is a wonderful website to encourage reading as well as writing. It encourages budding writers and artists to contribute to the page. Students may write their own book in a matter of minutes. Artwork is supplied and all that is needed is the student and their imagination.

Teacher Tube Teacher Tube is a wonderful resource for educators. You can find instructional videos, audio clips that may be used in the classroom. It not only has videos but also documents, audio, photos, and groups that cover a vast array of subjects.

National Geographic This site is great for science and geography. We can learn about animals, where they live, what they eat, and if they are considered prey or preditors. You can also learn about the enviroment, atmosphere, maps, and so much more. And best of all, it's free!

Brain Pop Brain Pop is an animated sight that is great for keeping students attention. It offers games, interactives, and quizzes. Students and educators can keep a record of accomplishments in My Brain Pop. No matter the level, it can be tailored to meet individual needs for each student.

PBS Kids PBS Kids offers videos, games and activities for all of their current childrens programs. Students can watch a video of Between the Lions and not realize that they are learning phonics and how to read. They can play a game with Sid the Science Kid and learn about science while having fun.

Random House Kids A wonderful site to open up the wonders of reading. Children can use their imagination to travel the world and learn about self-esteem, friendships, take voyages of discovery around the world, and so much more. It has games available, activities, and videos. It even has a spotlight on authors so the students can learn about what inspires them to write their books.

iExcel iExcel is a source for help with reading, writing, and math. It offers an enrichment program, tutoring, and homework help. The program is based on Georgia curriculum used in kindergarten through the 12th grade. It has prep programs for the CRCT, ITBS, PSAT, and the SAT.

First in Math First in Math is a math site that provides an interactive progression base for students between K-8. It gives immediate feedback so the students can be aware on what they need to work on and can repeat the exercise until they understand it.

Edutopia Edutopia is a site that is focused on providing the educators with resources. It focuses on core strategies such as assessments, project based learning, and social and emotional learning. Their goall is to help educators empower students to think critically, analize information, and creatively solve problems.

Fun Brain Fun Brain is an exciting website for kids! They can read their favorite books, play games, work on their math by playing games.

Scholastic Students can play games, read stories, and watch videos of some of their favorite Scholastic characters. It also has resources for the teachers to use in their classes. These resources include videos, lesson plans, and an online store.

Mr. Nussbaum The Mr. Nussbaum website was created by Greg Nussbaum, who is a currently a 6th grade teacher. He has taught grades 2 through 6. He decided to use what he learned through the years and create a website to help others. The site is full of stories, games, and activities for students through the 8th grade. It covers subjects like math, language, science, and history.

Hooda Math Hooda Math is a website that only deals with math. It is full of fun games that kids can play to improve their math skills. There are simple addition and subtract games and there are games for fractions and algebra. Basically, there is something for everyone!

Adapted Mind Adapted Mind evaluates your child to determine their strengths and weaknessess and the adapts the curriculum to fit their learning skills. Evem though it is a subscription based website, it comes highly recommened by some teachers I know. They do, however, offer a 30 day free trial.
