Scissors Fabric scissors come in both left and right handed versions. They are very sharp They are used to cut material ONLY and should NEVER be used to cut paper, plastic etc.
Rulers Textiles rulers come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are mainly used to Mark straight lines Measure Creating right angles
Tape Measure This is a flexible piece of material or plastic which is set out in centremeters. It is used for measuring different parts of the body and material
Tailors Chalk Tailors chalk comes in a variety of colours and is used to mark material. It easily washes out in water.
Pins The common pin used is a “Pearl Headed Pin”. It has a large round head that is easy to see and grip. It is used to hold 2 or more pieces of material together prior to sewing
Hand Sewing Needles Hand sewing needles are very sharp and used to join material together by hand.
Pinking Shears Pinking shears are used to cut a “Zig Zag” edge on material. This is used for decoration and to stop the material from “Fraying”
Thread Clipper Thread clippers are used to cut the thread ends off of sewn stitches. They can also be used to unpick sewn edges
Unpicker Unpickers are used to unpick sewn edges
Glue Fabric glue is used to join two different pieces of material.
Thimble The thimble is used to protect the thumb when hand sewing
Fabric Markers Fabric markers come in a variety of colours and are used to decorate material. They are permanent when set.
Crayons Fabric rayons come in a variety of colours and are used to decorate material. They are permanent when set.
Dyes Fabric dyes come in a variety of colours and when added to water are used to change the colour of fabric. They are also used for decoration.
