Diversity in the Workplace PDI credit A Core Requirement for completion of Professional Development Institute (PDI) is “Diversity in the Workplace” Workshops are offered both fall & spring semesters If you cannot attend a Workshop, the following individual assignment will allow you to earn the PDI credit

Diversity in the Workplace PDI credit After reviewing website (& other literature or product advertisements) for an organization of your choice *, answer the following 8 questions: * a for-profit OR not-for-profit organization, large or small, local or international. It’s YOUR choice.

Diversity in the Workplace PDI credit 1. does the organization publish a Diversity Statement or is their commitment to a Diverse / Inclusive Workplace included in the organization Mission Statement?

Diversity in the Workplace PDI credit 2. if so, what is the statement?

Diversity in the Workplace PDI credit 3. what evidence do you find of a commitment to a Diverse Workplace in the organization's Recruiting Practices? (for example) Do they attend career fairs for under-represented populations of job candidates? If so, which ones? Do they address ADA compliance in their job application process? If so, how?

Diversity in the Workplace PDI credit 4. what evidence do you find of a commitment to a Diverse Workplace in the organization's Hiring Practices? (for example) Are there any statements or requirements that might exclude any group or population? Are there any statements or requirements that might cause any group or population to feel "less welcome or less included"? What about photographs used on the web? Do they represent diversity with regard to physical appearance?

What do you see in the Recruiting, Hiring and Employment Practices that you feel creates an Inclusive Workplace, i.e., diverse groups of individuals are welcome, valued, and appreciated in the organization? (for example) Does the organization provide opportunities for affinity or peer groups? Does the organization promote “community” both at work and among employees outside of work? Are “advocacy & mentoring programs” valued by the organization? If so, describe.

If you were the CEO or Human Resource Executive for this organization, what is the 1 thing you would change about the website (or advertisements) to create a more positive environment for diverse populations of employees to work? What 1 thing would you change that would create a more Inclusive Workplace? Describe that change and how you believe it would affect workers in the organization.

If you selected a For-Profit organization, please respond to this question, “if the bottom line of business is the ‘bottom line’, how does a more diverse workforce affect the ‘bottom line’?” 9. If you selected a Non-Profit organization, please respond to this question, “how will a more diverse workforce affect fund-raising or development of financial partners for a Non-Profit organization?”
