BELVO MINIS ETHOS OBRFC Mini Rugby strive to maintain an ethos that is welcoming, inclusive and committed to the development of rugby for kids of all standards, in a safe, fun environment. ALL kids have fun on every visit to the Club Put in place a structure that will nurture the development of talent in a manner that recognizes that kids develop at different speeds Develop an environment that will enable kids understand the importance of respecting referees, opponents & coaches We hope to build an allegiance and loyalty to OBRFC & sense of “belonging” among kids, parents & coaches

COACHES: QUALIFICATIONS & CHILD PROTECTION All Coaches are parents of players and are fully Garda vetted All have completed/completing IRFU official training programmes All teams have coach to player ratio’s of average 1:8 Each age group has at least 1 qualified first aider (proposal to increase this in 2014/15) 2014/15 - Introduction of IRFU safe rugby courses for all coaches – includes guidance re concussion All coaches complete the IRB online concussion training Parents must remain on-site during weekly sessions

CONCUSSION. Follow IRFU recommendations : 2 minute assessment on side line Any doubt and a player will be immediately removed from the rest of the session 3 week rest following any form of concussion – parents please take coaches advice if they recommend the rest period – it is in the better interest of your child Referees decision final

IRFU REGISTRATION Compulsory registration for all players U10 and above An IRFU Green Card is required for U13 Failure to comply with registration will lead to exclusion from match teams Please complete and returns forms to Jacqui with 2 passport photos and birth cert.

COMMUNICATIONS: TEAMER Weekly communication regarding training and matches is sent via Teamer (online and mobile communication service) Club will register each player/guardians (ideally home/personal address as s to work can be blocked by spam filters) It is important to respond to teamer message to allow coaches to plan training and matches Responses using teamer app are free TRAINING TIMES MAY VARY PLEASE CHECK TEAMER

FUNDRAISING All coaches are volunteers Main fundraising events : Minis Lunch (March) Jersey Sponsorship All funds are re-invested in the mini rugby club i.e. Pitch rental, equipment, coaches training Away matches Xmas party/ BBQ Proposal to develop all weather pitch (cost dependent)

CLUB TOURS AIL Away Games – u10 and u11 travel to one of the away games - Half time games at home matches U12 Annual Tour (Subsidised by club and separate fund raising committee ) - Marks the end of many of the boys Belvo careers - One parent travels with each child

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT Key to the success of the club Call for help in the following areas - First Aiders – training provided free of charge - Mangers for each age level to aid head coach - People to organise a rota for after match refreshments at each age level - Volunteers to help at the Xmas party

IRFU CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PLAYERS Play for enjoyment and become part of the rugby family. Respect the "Game of Rugby" and play within the laws of the Game. Accept the referee's decision and let your captain or coach ask any relevant questions. Play with control. Do not lose your temper. Always do your best and be committed to the game, your team and your club. Be a "good sport". Applaud all good play whether by your team or the opposition. Respect your opponent. Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not "bully" or take advantage of any player.

IRFU CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PLAYERS Rugby is a team sport and make sure you co-operate with your coach; team mates and members of your club. Remember that the goals of the game are to have fun, improve your skills and feel good. At the end of the match thank your opponents and the referee for the match. Always remember that you owe a duty of care to your opponents. Tackle hard but fairly, do not intend to hurt your opponent. Winning and losing is part of sport: Win with humility - lose with dignity. As part of the team it is important that you attend training regularly and listen to your coach and help your team. As a team sport it is important to understand that all members are important to the team! Remember you are representing your team, club, family and the Game of Rugby.

IRFU CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS Remember, young people play rugby for their enjoyment, not only yours. Encourage your child always to play by the Laws of the Game. Teach young children that honest endeavour is as important as winning, so that the result of each game is accepted without disappointment. Help young people to work towards skill improvement and good sportsmanship. Set a good example by applauding good play on both sides. Never ridicule, humiliate or shout at young players for making a mistake or losing a match. Do not place emphasis on winning at all costs. Do not force an unwilling child to participate in the playing of rugby. If the child is to play, he/she will do so in good time through your encouragement.

IRFU CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from rugby. As a spectator do not use profane language or harass referees, coaches or players. Do not publicly question the referees' judgement and never their honesty. Recognise the value and importance of volunteer referees and coaches. Identify and acknowledge the good qualities of the Game of Rugby and uphold these values. Remember you and your child's contribution to the Game of Rugby is very important to the IRFU and be proud of your contribution. Understand the value of team sport and the importance there of.
