The contemporary photographer I have researched is Stephen Newton, a self taught photographer and creator of Photograph Heaven. The company offers a wide range of photography such as weddings, family portraits and commercial assignments. They pride themselves in making sure they pay attention to detail and create artistic touches to their work in order to help them stand out within todays industry. - Photographer’s Website CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHER

This is a photograph that the contemporary photographer I chose to research had taken. This image uses the technique of ‘Rule of Thirds’, the reason this image follows this rule is because the otters eye sits on the line that creates the thirds. Therefore, the viewers attention is drawn to the head of the otter, which is the subject within the image. Rule of thirds is a technique this photographer often uses, as shown in this image it is effective. EXAMPLES OF WORK

This image uses a fisheye lens to create a rounded look to the photograph. Without the fisheye it would look very square and flat. It’s a good technique as it gives an image more dimension. The choice of environment within the background also enhances the image with the bright colours it helps to make it more visually appealing. It also uses a lot of space in the background to almost make the subject look lost in the beautiful scenery. EXAMPLE OF WORK

This demonstrates some of the photographers portrait work. It uses a technique of ‘rule of thirds’. Its obvious that the photographer likes this technique and he creates some effective images using it. The eye of the model sits on the intersecting lines of the thirds, which makes the viewer naturally drawn to the models head first. The white background is also a good technique as it adds a calm feel to the image because it is a soft, natural colour. EXAMPLE OF WORK

Walker Evans was the past photographer I researched. He was born on 3rd November 1903 and died 10th Walker was an American photographer who was best known for documenting the effects which the great depression caused. The great depression was a wide economic depression in the decade of World War 2. Throughout Evans work of the great depression he used the large format 8x10 inch camera. His goal as a photographer was to create pictures which looked excellent, well-educated and confident. PAST PHOTOGRAPHER

This photograph taken by Walker Evans I feel represents the rule of thirds. I think this because of the image being split into 3 different sections which the viewer is drawn to. The sections could be split up with the sky being one section, the buildings being another and the road being the last. I also think this image represents direction as it draws the viewer’s eye down the middle of the road and then onto the left over the bridge and off of the photograph. EXAMPLES OF WORK

This photograph makes the viewer wonder what the whole picture is about in the sense that the image is very simple with just the pair of boots placed slightly a part in the middle of the image. It makes the viewer wonder if the boots are actually real and whether it gives a sense of the meaning being about walking away. EXAMPLES OF WORK

By what I have learnt this year so far and by looking at this image I can see that this image abides by the rule repetition. This would be because of the continual line of houses one after another also the rule direction as it draws your eye down the road of the image. EXAMPLES OF WORK
