LHCb-VELO evaporator CoBra Calculation and feed through ideas. 18 February 2015 Bart Verlaat 1

Micro channel numbers 2

Cobra simulation of according previous slide 3

CoBra simulation with reduced flow 4

Flow more reduced…… 5

A reduced flow until X=0.9 => Dryout 6 Interesting the model does not show dry-out Also very interesting: The pressure drop does not depend on flow!! I’ve never seen that…. Model must be crazy for microchannels, Test, test, test!!!

Reduced power. 7

Evaporator with connections outside vacuum 8 Connectors outside vacuum Vacuum connector Rolled up during handling Insulation Vacuum

Cooling feed through 9 2x 1/8” VCR Gland (D=1/4”) 1/8” VCR glands without nuts are very small and fit both through a 14mm hole (10mm would even work) A split nut ala IBL can be installed after insertion Hole diameter 14mm Braze connection (Cold) O ring connection (Warn)

1/8” VCR with splitnut 10 D=1/4” (6.35mm) 1/8” VCR with split nut Atlas-IBL cooling line
