Internet Safety Who should teach it? Everyone’s responsibility Everyone’s goal 1

What we are seeing? Tech-savvy at a younger age Z.N.H. at the age of 2 years and 8 months old 2

Objectives Page 4Post assessment Page 5Go to blog for story Page 11Go to Assignment Page 15Answer Questions via 3

Common Sense Isn’t always what we think Don’t use, “when I was that age” or “in my day” Things have changed, Keep a watchful eye on what is going on Go to the following for your preassessmentpreassessment (example of how to use Google Forms as an educational tool) 4

Food For Thought Personal contact information includes name together with other information that would reveal location and identity, including, but not limited to, parent's name, home address or location, work address or location, or phone number. Go to my blog and respond with a short storyblog 5 Example of how to use a blog or Gaggle Blogs in education

Good Rules to live by: 1.Elementary or middle school students are not to disclose full name or any other personal contact information for any purpose. 6

Not my original words 2.High school students are not to disclose personal contact information, except to education institutions for educational purposes, companies or other entities for career development purposes, or with specific approval from school system employees. 7

Seems a bit much!!! 3.Students are not to disclose names, personal contact information, or any other private or personal information about other students under any circumstances. Students are not to forward a message that was sent to them privately without permission of the person who sent them the message. 8

But, it is important!!! 4.Students must not agree to meet someone whom they have met online without parent's approval and participation. 9

Keep lines of communication open 5.Students must promptly disclose to a teacher or other school system employee any message they receive that is inappropriate or makes them feel uncomfortable. They should not delete such messages until instructed to do so by a school system employee. 10

So, what to do? Gather “interesting” resources to assist in teaching the basics. Use what student’s know If possible, use student examples and opinions Discussion groups on topic Incorporate into lesson, when online Go to your Assignment to watch videosAssignment 11 Example of using Discovery Ed. Streaming as a tool

Some interesting resources let/PageServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US&Pa geId=714 let/PageServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US&Pa geId=714 These are just a few of the websites to gather info. Do a search for “Internet Safety” 12

Do an internet search for resources Do a search for resources you might use for your students, based on the age group you teach. Then, put them on a word processing document, and safe for future uses –or– put online for your students. 13
