Why do all Christians believe in life after death? Life After Death: Christianity Why do all Christians believe in life after death? Jesus rose from the dead the Bible says that there is life after death Churches teach that there is life after death the creeds say that there is life after death there is evidence of life after death from such things as near-death experiences and the paranormal they believe that life after death gives life meaning and purpose

Life After Death: Christianity CHRISTIAN ATTITUDES TO LIFE AFTER DEATH There are two main Christian beliefs Resurrection and Immoranlity of the soul Resurrection of the body What? Many Evangelical Protestants and other Christians believe that when people die they stay in the grave until the end of the world when God will raise everyone’s body and judge them. True Christians will go to heaven and everyone else will go to hell. Why? It is what St Paul teaches in 1 Corinthians 15 Jesus’ body rose from the dead It is part of the Christian creeds.

Immortality of the soul Life After Death: Christianity CHRISTIAN ATTITUDES TO LIFE AFTER DEATH Immortality of the soul What? Many Christians do not believe in the resurrection of the body. They believe in immortality – that the soul, or mind, is immortal and lives on after death. When people die their souls go straight to heaven. Why? Jesus said the criminal on the cross would be in paradise straight after death The communion of saints teaches that living and dead Christians can communicate with each other Things like near-death experiences (the soul leaves the body and goes down a tunnel of light to God) show the immortality of the soul.

Is there a Heaven and Hell? Life After Death: Christianity Is there a Heaven and Hell? Christians disagree on whether there is heaven and hell and who will go where. This is because: The Bible says different things about heaven, hell, resurrection and immortality. Many Christians find it hard to believe that an all-loving God will send people to hell for ever. Living in a multi-faith society makes it hard to believe that good Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs and Jews will be sent to hell.

How beliefs about life after death affect their lives Life After Death: Christianity How beliefs about life after death affect their lives Christians believe that they will be judged by God after death, so they live within the guidelines given in the Bible and by the Church. This affects how they live and how they treat others. The fact that Jesus rose from the dead gives them hope that they will also rise, and that they will be rewarded for their time on earth. It offers comfort to those who have suffered the death of a loved one. The promise of Heaven offers an explanation for suffering experienced in this life. The promise of the afterlife means forgiveness for Christians who have repented and new hope for a better future.
