WHAT CAN ROCK OUR WORLD? 1

2 …but very dangerous!!! ….but very dangerous!!!

HOW DIFFERENT IS THIS? Like the European Discovery of the Western Hemisphere??? 3

A worldwide migration of plants, animals, people, germs, genes, languages, products, currency, treasure, technology, information, belief systems and concepts of government. For more than 40,000 years great branches of humanity developed independently separated by impassable bodies of water. 4

Then 500 years ago they suddenly came into contact. The result was the greatest period of change in human history. The sailing ship was the genesis of the modern world. Fire, domestication of wild animals, agricultural, metallurgy, writing and movable type were all crucial technical developments but none of them were capable of linking the world and bringing all of its cultures into contact. 5

How Different Is This? Like the Human Development of Language??? 6

IT’S REALLY BIG!!! Remember This??? Omar Suleiman Tahrir Square 7

Americans Think Of It As a “Domain” “Defending a New Domain: The Pentagon's Cyberstrategy” William J. Lynn III “…As a doctrinal matter, the Pentagon has formally recognized cyberspace as a new domain of warfare. Although cyberspace is a man-made domain, it has become just as critical as land, sea, air and space.” 8

Land, Sea, Air, Space, Cyber 9

From ARPA Net…. 10

…to the Worldwide Web 11

So…What Could Go Wrong? There’s stealing your stuff There’s hurting your network There’s creating physical destruction 12

And Who Could Do This? Nation States Criminal Gangs Hacktivists 13

And What Has Been Our Government’s Response??? 14

The Government Will Be Forever Late to Need in this Domain 15

Big Questions Still Remain 16

How Do We Apply This In a New Domain and in a New Century??? The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. 17

And So the Private Sector Is Stepping In The Traditional Risk Equation Risk = Threat x Vulnerability x Consequence 18

…but Enjoy!!! 19
