DSAW Leadership Norms DSAW Team Leadership Norms Everyone does and should bring enthusiasm to the work we do. We must all be open-minded. Everyone must have the opportunity to share their opinion. If we have a standstill/non-agreement, we move to the standard of “What is best for DSAW and the people we serve?” When an individual is an outlier, he/she needs to go into an active listening mode; do not “hunker down.” When disagreeing or challenging, don’t make it personal; keep it professional. After all shared opinions and engaged in discussion, the final decision is made by the majority (or where required the supermajority) of the Board. No one can have a hidden agenda—we all engage in our efforts on the Board truthfully and honestly. To get to the end-point, stay together as a team. We must stay disciplined and stay on point. Revere similarities—trivialize differences. Our goal is to identify and leverage similarities to take and create advantage. Hold yourself accountable to the decisions of the team; outliers in debate must be leaders in action.

Why Do Our Families Need DSAW To Be A Service Provider? Expansion of Self Direction In Wisconsin Occurred in 2008 (IRIS – Include Respect I Self Direct) The Program Now Serves 9,000 Adults With Disabilities In Wisconsin Who Want To Self Direct Their Services – About 20% of Those Eligible for Long Term Supports In Wisconsin Choose IRIS

IRIS is a Wisconsin program where you self-direct your publicly funded, community-based, long-term care supports and services. IRIS can help you get the life you want with the support you need. In IRIS you use your own natural supports and creativity with your budget to achieve your hopes and dreams. Goals of IRIS: INCLUDE – Wisconsin elders, adults with physical disabilities and adults with developmental disabilities who are Medicaid eligible are included in communities across Wisconsin just like everyone else. IRIS can help participants remain connected to others. RESPECT – You choose where you live, what relationships you build, where you work, and how actively you participate in your community. I SELF-DIRECT – IRIS is a self-directed option in which you creatively use your monthly budget allocation to help meet your individual long-term care needs. You decide what is important to you.
