Slide 2 Sports Clubs Clubs are at the heart of community sport: 106,400 affiliated clubs in England 8 million members Average membership of 75 40,000 clubs own their own facilities (38%) Target of 5000 Clubmark accredited clubs by 2008.

Slide 3 About Sports Clubs Increased participation through quality-assured Clubmark accredited clubs, focusing on the following key elements: The playing programme Duty of care and child protection Sports equity and ethics Club management Club and volunteer development (which is also key to the Clubmark accreditation programme).

Slide 4 Volunteers Sports volunteers are the largest single volunteer segment: More than 5.8 million people volunteer in sport – mainly club-based (15% of the adult population) They donate 1.2 billion hours They are worth an estimated £14 billion Current focus is on young volunteers through Step into Sport. Slide 10 What is runningsports ? runningsports provides administration and management skills and support for volunteers working in all sports This is done through a variety of easily accessible resources runningsports focuses on: volunteer management club administration and governance planning and development It is easily accessible online and offline It is not about recruiting/placing volunteers, although there are signposts to volunteering centres and

Sports volunteers and their coordinators in clubs/ organisations at local, county, regional and national levels: To help them develop their club/organisation and ensure its future success Those responsible for developing sports volunteering: It presents a ready-made programme of resources and support that they can offer to volunteers in sports clubs/organisations.

Slide 12 What is New About runningsports? It has been developed from Running Sport and the Volunteer Investment Programme (VIP) In consultation with many of sport’s and volunteering’s major bodies. It is created and funded by Sport England. However, it’s not just a new name. It is: Refreshed and updated in terms of content More relevant More easily accessible online and offline.
