How to Use a Coordinate Plane A Coordinate Pair is needed! (x, y) A coordinate pair tells the exact location on the coordinate plane. The x position on the X-axis goes in the x place. The y position on the Y-axis goes in the y place. *Mathematicians plot on the x-axis first.

Read Points (Figure out the Coordinate Pair) 1) Start at the origin. 2) Count the lines left or right toward the point. The number of lines you count goes into the x place of the coordinate pair. (x, y) becomes (2, y) 3) Now count the lines up or down toward the point. However many lines you count goes into the y place of the coordinate pair. (2, y) becomes (2, 3)
