SeaMobile - Providing marine data and forecasts via mobile touch screen devices to reach out to a large audience of potential users  initiated to develop SeaMobile information service for giving tourist and recreational users at Cyprus access to marine forecasts and information about the beach and sea conditions on mobile phones (iPhone and Android) and tablets.  project duration: 2 years (Apr 2013 – July 2015)  partners: OC-UCY (CY), Maris (NL), WabbieWorks (CY), CTO (CY)  co-funded by the RPF – Research Promotion Foundation and the European Regional Development Fund.

CYCOFOS – the operational coastal ocean forecasting and observing system operated and developed by OC-UCY - continuously evolving system, for sub-regional forecasting and observing in the Eastern Mediterranean Levantine Basin. The marine forecast are updated daily with a forecast horizon of 5 days and include sea currents, sea temperature and salinity at different depths, offshore significant wave height, swell, as well as winds over the sea.

SeaMobile App The resulting SeaMobile App provides a handy and dynamic guide to the beaches and marine waters of Cyprus. It gives for each beach: – local information (description and features), – marine forecasts – weather forecasts This is provided in tables and maps, including animations.

Users of the SeaMobile App can view data:  currents  sea temperature  salinity  waves and swell  winds  pressure  air temperature  clouds coverage  humidity,  general information for each beach, … with just a few clicks on their mobile devices.

End users The SeaMobile information aims at users: in the tourism and recreational sectors, in particular public visiting beaches, swimming, surfing, sailing, fishing, diving, professionals such as hotels, schools for diving, fishery trips organizers, boat rentals, and others.

The SeaMobile App allows public and professionals to appreciate the changeability of the sea at many scales and in many aspects. The information services can also increase the safety, because users will be warned of possible high waves or strong currents and can take these into account when planning their activities such as sailing, boat trips and others
