Agenda Planning Process Defining the “End Goal” Applying Models and Methodology Adult Learning Principles Training Toolkit Tips and Tricks Discussion and Q&A

Training Planning Process Needs Assessment Define Objectives & Goals Coordinate Logistics Implement Program Evaluate Outcomes

What’s the “End Goal”? Start by clearly identifying the end goal and define training objectives accordingly Workplace training goals should aim to solve quantifiable business needs Base training objectives on specific job related tasks workers will need to learn The training goals should be realistic and tailored for the specific group of learners

The ABCD’s of Learning

ADDIE Model Instructional Design

Know Your (Adult) Audience Adult learners like to be treated like, adults. Varying learning curves with new technology systems based on prior computer experience May be more change resistant - need to understand the “why” behind the change Juggling multiple professional and personal obligations so training is not always a priority Practical and want training applicable to their professional needs

“Andragogy ” aka Adult Learning Involved Adult Learners Personal Experienc e Relevant to Personal Life Problem Centered In 1984, Malcolm Knowles suggested 4 principles that are often applied to adult learning:

Training Toolkit Define your training objectives both to yourself (or your training team) and your target audience Use your desired objectives as a model and build your training program to accomplish those goals. After you design your perfect training program have on-going evaluation Package it up! Build your trainings in such a way that they are scalable and reusable

Package it up! Ideas Build a training page template Create a separate training site or section Develop e-Learning materials like custom End User guides and LMS courses Train other trainers Write a custom web Style- guide and put in add-ons tab Make a standard OU Campus training outline, and save it Hold on-going labs and training sessions Establish a community of users
