Math Stations allow each student to succeed. Teacher has more time to work with individual students and small groups.
5 minutes: whole group warm-up 35 minutes: whole class focus lesson 40 minutes: Independent Practice ◦ Tiered independent practice with station activities for early finishers. ◦ Meet with small groups to fill in gaps and accelerate. 10 minutes: whole class closure
10 minutes: whole group warm-up 35 minutes: ◦ focus lesson Group A. ◦ Other part of the class works on anchor activities or independent practice. 35 minutes: ◦ focus lesson for Group B ◦ Other part of the class works on anchor activities or independent practice. 10 minutes: whole class closure
10 minutes: whole group warm-up 70 minutes: ◦ Teacher meets with one group at a time at the Teacher Station to teach required focus lessons, accelerated focus lessons, and review or reteach (2-3 groups total for the session). ◦ Other students are refining and extending their understanding at Independent Practice, Learning Stations, and an Anchor Activity center. 10 minutes: whole class closure

The Purpose of an Anchor Activity is to: Provide meaningful work for students when they finish an assignment or project, when they first enter the class or when they are “stumped”. Provide ongoing tasks that tie to the content and instruction. Free up the classroom teacher to work with other groups of students or individuals.
