Facial Treatments A professional facial is one of the most enjoyable and relaxing services available to the salon client

Facial Treatments Facials result in a noticeable improvement in the client’s skin tone, texture & appearance Two categories Preservative Corrective

Categories Preservative Corrective Maintain the health of the facial skin by cleansing correctly, increasing circulation, relaxing the nerves & activating the skin glands & metabolism through massage Corrective Correct some facial skin conditions, such as dryness, oiliness, comedones, aging lines & minor conditions of acne

Facials Treatments Facial massage treatments help: To increase circulation Activate glandular activity Relax the nerves Maintain muscle tone Strengthen weak muscle tissues

Guidelines Help the client to relax by speaking in a quiet & professional manner Explain the benefits of the products & service & answer any questions the client may have Provide a quiet atmosphere & work quietly & efficiently Maintain neat, clean, sanitary conditions in the facial work area with an orderly arrangement of supplies

Guidelines Follow systematic procedures If your hands are cold, warm them before touching the client’s face Keep your nails smooth & short so as not to scratch the client’s skin

Guidelines Perform an analysis on your client’s skin Determine whether it is dry, normal or oily, If fine lines or creases exist If blackheads or acne are present If dilated capillaries are visible If the skin texture is smooth or rough If the skin color is even

Guidelines RESULTS will determine: What products to use for the massage What areas of face need special attention How much pressure to use when massaging What equipment should be used

Aromatherapy Therapeutic use of essential oils Dates back to 2000 BC Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, & Romans all used oils derived from plants Many purposes, including healing, perfumes, hypnosis & meditation Today use of essential oils can enhance a person’s physical, emotional, mental & spiritual well-being Specific benefits create positive effects on the body, mind and spirit

Aromatherapy Essential oils can be used in a variety of ways Lighting a cinnamon candle in the winter can give the salon a cozy feeling & cheer up both client’s & yourself You can create your own aromatherapy massage oil by adding a few drops of essential oil into basic massage oil, cream or lotion

Aromatherapy Aromatherapy is a healing method that should not be used on clients without proper training It requires in-depth study of plants, essential oils,& the chemistry of those oils, as well as sound knowledge of human anatomy and physiology A cosmetologist must not attempt to perform healing treatments with aromatherapy

Facial Summary There is a wide range of options available to the professional who chooses to offer extensive skin care and facial services. To be successful with facials, you must develop confidence, the ability to properly analyze the skin and knowledge of the correct products to be used
