Isaiah: Big Picture God’s plans matter Men’s plans will not change anything He chooses.

Isaiah chapter 7 The enemies of Judah got together to attack Jerusalem (v1-6). God had other plans (v7-9). Ahaz refused a sign from God (v10-13). God’s sign is the virgin birth (v14-15). Before that God will bring enemies on Jerusalem’s enemies (v16-17). The Assyrians would devour and devastate (v18-25).

Isaiah 7:10-14 God offered Ahaz a sign. Ahaz refused. How stubborn can men be? God is still sovereign. God’s plan is outstanding. Born of a virgin Immanuel – God with us.

Isaiah 7 What were the plans of Jerusalem’s enemies? _________________________________________________________ What sort of king was Ahaz (2 Kings 16)? _________________________________________________________ What did God say would happen to their enemies? _________________________________________________________ What did God offer Ahaz for his comfort and support? _________________________________________________________ Why would Ahaz refuse? What was he relying on? _________________________________________________________ Just because we are Christians we think we are better but are there things God wants to do in our lives we are stubborn about? _________________________________________________________ How does God respond to His stubbornness? _________________________________________________________ What would happen to their enemies? _________________________________________________________ Why is God’s sign more important than any he could ask for? _________________________________________________________ In what part of your life do you need God to be ‘God with us’? _________________________________________________________ For next week: Read Isaiah 7,8,9 and focus on 8:12-13 Isaiah 7 What were the plans of Jerusalem’s enemies? _________________________________________________________ What sort of king was Ahaz (2 Kings 16)? _________________________________________________________ What did God say would happen to their enemies? _________________________________________________________ What did God offer Ahaz for his comfort and support? _________________________________________________________ Why would Ahaz refuse?
