Week 9 Deliverables Team Highlander 3/10/10

Continued Analysis Added moment to handle, no significant change in tipping problem With a 25 lb weight, wrist generates roughly 4.2 ft-lb of torque Original moment was ft-lb for the entire frame, so doesn’t effect tipping

Manufacturing Materials Handle Bars Stopper (counter moment) Linkage arms Lever Made with 6061-T6 Aluminum – Same material used on good bicycle frames – Low cost ($4.68/2 ft 3/4 SCH 40 (1.05 OD X.113W)) – High yield stress (400 MPa)

Manufacturing Materials Pins and Bolts – Steel, found readily at a variety of locations – Standard sizes used – nothing custom-made Handle and lever grips – Silicon, good cushion level and relatively cheap, easy to mold

Manufacturing - Prototype Bars will be shipped as pipes, and will be machined by Team Highlander Bolts/Pins purchased at Home Depot Handle and lever grips – Use bicycle handlebar tape – Good cushion level, high quality, does not require any sort of injection molding – Costs approximately $20 Handle bar pivot will be clamped onto the frame

Manufacturing – Final Product 1-1,000 Units Type of manufacturing used – Handle bars: extrusion (hot) – Handle grips: injection molding – Curved stopper legs: sand casting (or plaster) – Pins/Bolts: sand casting – Lever bars: extrusion (hot) – Lever handles: injection molding – Linkage rods: extrusion (hot) – Lever/handle brackets: sand casting/welding

Manufacturing – Final Product 1,000-1,000,000 Units Type of manufacturing used – Handle bars: extrusion (hot) – Handles: injection molding – Curved stopper legs: permanent mold casting – Pins/Bolts: permanent mold casting – Lever bars: extrusion (hot) – Lever handles: injection molding – Linkage rods: extrusion (hot) – Lever/handle brackets: permanent mold casting/machining/welding
