Lesson # 4 The “Teens” Times Table
People might say… Hey… This is a “teen” Lesson, intended for “teens”, That’s pretty Keen, If you know what I mean, Jellybean
This is a super fast way… To multiply “teens” In your Head !
For example… Try 15 x 16 = ?
Hard to do ? Try these four steps…
Step # 1(15x16) Add one teens number to the ones digit of the other. Add = 21
Step # 2 (15x16) Multiply that sum by x 10 = 210
Step # 3 (15x16) Multiply the two digits in the “ones” place. 5 x 6 = 30
Step # 4 (15x16) Add that (30) to your other answer (210) = 240
Check with a calculator 15x16 = 240
Here are the four steps again… #1) Add one teens number to the ones digit of the other. #2) Multiply that sum by 10. #3) Multiply the ones digits. #4) Add this to your answer.
Try this in your head (17 x 13) Think… Step # 1) Add one teens number to the ones digit of the other = 20 Step # 2) Multiply that sum by x 10 = 200 Step # 3) Multiply the ones digits. 7 x 3 = 21 Step # 4) Add them = 221
This takes lots of practice so … Let’s do one more example…
Try this one ( 14 x 19) = ?
Think (14 x 19 ) = ? #1) = 23 #2) 23 x 10 = 230 # 3) 4 x9 = 36 #4) = 266
