Summary of Sharing a Pathfinder Connie Burke INF-203 Pathfinder

Connie Burke INF-203 Pathfinder Questionnaire 1. Was this presentation helpful to locate resources to answer these questions: What is a Career Portfolio? Why a Career Portfolio? How to create a Portfolio? 2. Did the pathfinder tool answer any additional questions? 3. What were some of the lessons learned from using this pathfinder tool? 4. Suggestions to improve on this pathfinder tool? Summary Results My student indicated that she already had a good understanding on what a career portfolio was and why it is an important tool. What she was looking for was information and suggestions for what should be included in a career portfolio. My student did indicate that the pathfinder tool did answer all three questions: What, Why and How to creating a portfolio. What she found most interesting was the information on format types that are available for creating a career portfolio. She was unfamiliar with non-linear PowerPoint Presentations, but stated that it was a great teaching tool and easy to use. Her suggestions for improving the lesson included instructions on accessing Ohio Link in the presentation; to include a way to access the resource from the current page. Reflection on the Lesson My college student is set to graduate in May of 2012. Therefore, she is in the process of adding content to a portfolio that was provided by the college and purchased by the student. In this case, she was more interested in what should go into a portfolio. The non-linear PowerPoint presentation was a great tool to answer the question this student had about portfolio content. By selecting just one of the reference resources provided, she was able to find a resource to help answer her question (print reference resource). She was already familiar with OhioLink and stated she was going to request several of the print resources. Her suggestions on adding an instructional link to access the print, EBook, and Database resources was a good idea. By adding a link at the bottom of each reference resource page the student would not need to go back to the beginning. Adding instructions on how to access OhioLink would be helpful for those who may have never used OhioLink or any other on-line catalog. Overall, this was a good experience for both of us. It gave me the opportunity to see first-hand how well a non-linear PowerPoint Presentation would work for instruction and to see if my pathfinder resources were a good source of reference to assist anyone looking to create a career portfolio Connie Burke INF-203 – Sharing a Pathfinder 3/11/2012 General Information:  Name of Pathfinder: Creating a Career Portfolio  Description: This is an interactive PowerPoint presentation.  Overview: This pathfinder is to provide information, tools, and resources to help create a career portfolio.
