Introduction Radisson Telecommunications, a leading Telecom Service company recently came to Apollo to have new Java based database software to be developed for them.

Introduction The client discussed the scope of work with Ian. However, the client was not very sure about several aspects of the software that they wanted to get developed. Ian thought of starting the project with whatever information he had gathered from the client. He ultimately agreed to finish the project as per the limited information provided by them.

Introduction When the project was under progress, Ian and his team realized that the scope that he had agreed upon are nearly impossible to meet due to several technical difficulties as well as due to lack of clarity of the scope.

Introduction Due to this constant to and fro of communication regarding scope and several iterations of the same task, Ian and his team were not able to complete the project as was promised to the client.

Introduction Due to this delay, Apollo Inc. had to pay some penalty for late delivery. Also, the client added new requirements that had to be incorporated in the software.

Introduction Hence, Apollo had to incur a loss in the project because the scope of work had increased and the terms of the project had not been negotiated well.

Introduction Yes, all this happened because Ian had not handled the Project well right from the beginning where the requirements and scope of the project should be collected from the client in detail and with great clarity.

Introduction Thus, you can see that ‘Project Management Skills’ are a must for a Project Manager to succeed in completing the projects effectively. Let us learn about ‘Project Management Skills’ in detail.

What is Project Management? A project in any organization is collaboration across departments to achieve a single well defined objective. The process of planning, organizing and managing resources to achieve the organizational objective is called project management.

Project Definition Phase In this phase of the project efforts are made to define the solution for the problem posed by customers. Step 1 Step 5 Project Definition Phase Step 4 Step 3

Behavioural Models for Project Managers Several models of behaviour are available which the project managers can use in their work. These models explains how a project manager can motivate his teammates towards achieving a common goal which ensures the success of the project.

Essential Soft Skills for the Project Manager The first and foremost skill which a project manager should have is good communication skills. Since they have to communicate with everyone at all levels, they have to get the point across without any communication gaps. Due to lack of good communication skills, the project managers are unable to articulate the problems and the objectives to their clients.

RACI Matrix for Project Management The RACI Matrix is also known as the Responsibility Assignment Matrix (RAM). ‘RACI’ is pronounced as ‘Racy’ or ‘Raki’. RACI Matrix has been a well-known concept in the field of project management for the past several years. The name ‘RACI’ is an acronym, which stands for: R: Responsible A: Accountable C: Consulted I: Informed
