Imperialism-Day 1 World History

Warm Up Why do you think many of the nations of Europe wanted colonies for themselves? Make a list of reasons.

Learning Targets I will complete a packet on Imperialism. I will write a SCR on the causes and the effects of Imperialism. Essential Question What were the causes of World War I and the effects of World War I on world history?

Industrialization Review The Industrial Revolution started in Great Britain. Factories began to produce goods that people wanted. Factories used steam power to propel the engines used in manufacturing. Factories provided jobs for people.

Industrialization Review Factories were often dirty, cramped places to work. Workers usually worked six days a week. Women and children that worked in the factories and were paid less than men. If you were injured, you had to work or lose your job.

Industrialization helps lead to Imperialism Because nations are developing new industries, new markets are needed so these goods can be sold. Solution-Imperialism! Imperialism meant that strong nations had to become colonial powers. Britain and France controlled much of Africa and India was a British colony until 1947.

Men would live and fight in the trenches. Trenches were dirty, often filled with water, filled with disease and rats.
