Density!!

What is density? Great question Amanda! Density is the mass (the amount of matter in an object) per unit volume (the amount of space an object occupies) of a substance. That is, the amount of space that it takes up for a given amount of it’s particles. The more mass an object has for a given amount of space, the more dense it is!

How is density calculated? Ooh, way to use big words Lily! First you half to measure the mass and the volume of an object. When you have those, you divide the mass by the volume and voila, you get the density. The unit of measurement is g/cm or g/ml.

How do we measure the mass and volume? Always on your game Emma! To measure the mass of an object you we use a triple beam balance scale. To use the scale you: 1. Set the scale to zero. 2. Place the item to be measured on the tray. 3. Balance the scale using the weight measures. 4. Add up the weights to find the mass!

Measuring Volume! Regular Shaped Objects Liquids Irregular Solids (use formulas) (use graduated cylinder) (use displacement)

What’s density? Thanks for paying attention Antony! I’ll go slow this time. Density is the mass per unit volume of a substance. You measure the mass and volume using some of our tools of science. Then you divide the mass by the volume and you get the density.
