Clean Water and Sanitation

What do we use water for?

Life Without Water – News articles “Energy use sucking up precious resource” January The Sydney Morning herald “The big dry” April The Economist “Less water for farmers means less fruit for us” July The Sydney Morning Herald “Murray-Darling endangered listing watered down” December The Sydney Morning herald z5d6.html

World Reality There are 783 million people in the world who don’t have access to clean water.

2.5 billion people are without adequate sanitation

Around 700,000 children die every year from diarrhoea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation – that’s almost 2000 children a day. 4 out of 10 don’t have access to a basic toilet

Only 15% of the worlds population have the luxury of water on tap Half the hospital beds in developing countries are filled with people suffering from diseases caused by poor water, sanitation and hygiene.

The average person in Australia uses 385L of water every day For every $1 invested in sanitation, at least $8 is returned in increased productivity and a reduced burden of healthcare.
