The Kingdoms of Israel

1  Israelites needed a king Saul was chosen by them to be king.  Saul disobeyed the commandments.

2  The Bible says that God chose David to be the new king but it was a secret.  Saul was killed in battle and David became king

3  David made people pay tributes in order to collect money for his temple.  David dies and his son Solomon takes over and finishes the temple.

4  Solomon is known for his proverbs (wise sayings) but people hated his rule because he forced them to pay high taxes and work.

5  Solomon dies and fighting breaks out.

6  10 of the 12 tribes set up their own nation called Israel.  The other two start the nation of Judah.

7  Assyrians took over Israel and scattered the tribes.  They are called the “lost tribes of Israel” because they lost their religion

8  Chaldeans took over Judah.  King Nebuchadnezzar treated the Jews very badly.

9  The Chaldeans forced 10,000 Jews to leave Judah and move to Babylon

10  The Jews tried to revolt but lost. The Chaldean ruler was mad and destroyed Jerusalem and the temple.  He put the Jewish king in chains.  Took the Jews to Babylon.  Known as Babylonian Captivity.
