Find the intersection of two sets. Intersection of Sets The intersection of two sets is defined with the word and. Intersection of Sets For any two sets A and B, the intersection of A and B, symbolized A ∩ B, is defined as follows: A B Slide 9.1- 3

Finding the Intersection of Two Sets CLASSROOM EXAMPLE 1 Finding the Intersection of Two Sets Let A = {3, 4, 5, 6} and B = {5, 6, 7}. Find A ∩ B. Solution: The set A ∩ B, the intersection of A and B, contains those elements that belong to both A and B; that is, the number s 5 and 6. A ∩ B = {3, 4, 5, 6} ∩ {5, 6, 7} Therefore, A ∩ B = {5,6}. In this case, the elements 5 and 6 are already listed, so the only additional element is 7. Therefore, A B = {3, 4, 5, 6, 7}.
