Moyock Middle School School Improvement Plan Results and Next Steps

Moyock Middle School will use Professional Learning Communities to develop and implement common, formative assessments, analyze data, and adjust instruction as needed. Results: Each core teacher gave one common, formative assessment each nine weeks, CTE teachers gave benchmarks MMS made all AYP goals Opportunities were provided for students to write across the curriculum at least 20 minutes per month Worked collaboratively with the high schools and elementary schools to hold parent meetings, student information sessions, and visits to ease the transition from one school to another

Moyock Middle School will use Professional Learning Communities to develop and implement common, formative assessments, analyze data, and adjust instruction as needed. Next Steps: Increase number of assessments to 2 per nine weeks Increase target goal percentages for math (2%), reading (2%), and exceptional children Maintain the goal of writing across the curriculum Continue with the current activities for transition from elementary school and to high school; Add principal and counselor meeting with 5 th grade teachers, students, and parents to recruit students for AVID

Moyock Middle School will support and implement opportunities for staff development Results: Staff development opportunities were provided within the school that included a book study and technology Offer staff development activities that coordinated with the School Improvement Plan Next Steps: Continue to offer staff development that is in line with the School Improvement Plan goals; Include staff development on AVID, new teacher evaluation tool, 21 st century skills and global awareness Increase the amount of collaborative planning time to 45 minutes per day; faculty meetings and department meetings to every other month, AVID site team meetings and PBS meetings (subcommittee meetings) once a month

Moyock Middle School will provide a safe and orderly learning climate. Results: Increase PBS activities to grade level challenges(3); PEP rally at the beginning of the school year; Individual teacher activities; Student of the Month; Teacher incentives Anti-bullying activities were conducted at least once per nine weeks Next Steps: Increase staff and parent participation, continue the current practices listed; increase the number of positive behavior referrals (data not tracked last year); bulletin board for positive referrals; include transportation Maintain anti-bullying goals (peer mediation, teen court training during Pound Period and guidance lessons in class)

Moyock Middle School will increase parent and community involvement Results: Increase parental participation Life Touch, Gubbs vending, Moyock Volunteer Fire Department, and New Beginnings Church were established as on-going business/community partners Next Steps: Increase parent participation on School Improvement Team, PBS team, and AVID site team, tutoring and guest speakers Increase the number of business partners by 2 – beginning a relationship with Barnes and Noble, working with Chick-fil-A; Target and Subway are other possibilities

Moyock Middle School will provide scheduling options to include team planning and participation in enrichment/remediation Results: MMS has implemented a new bell schedule that includes one individual planning and one team planning for each teacher The new bell schedule incorporates an enrichment period (Pound Period) Next Steps: Monitor the effectiveness of the bell schedule (Pound Period, time allotment, etc.) Look at eliminating bells or set up to ring in designated areas Elicit feedback from staff

NEW GOAL: Moyock Middle School will implement AVID, the AVID elective class, and AVID strategies across the curriculum Current Reality: MMS is establishing AVID at the 7 th and 8 th grade levels *This year will be our benchmark year to collect initial data Strategies: Teachers receive training Create recruitment, application, and interview process Implement the AVID elective class Measure of Effectiveness: Implementation of AVID strategies in the AVID class and other classes Parent involvement, number of applications, number of students accepted into AVID program Students enrolled in the AVID elective, attendance, student binders, guest speakers, field trips
