The Maori are the native people living in New Zealand.

The Maoris have a polytheistic religion, and the gods control nature.

NOTES They speak North Island Maori. Their music consisted of chants that told stories and lineages. LINEAGE: a group of families with a common ancestor

The traditional greet is call hongi. (Nose to nose, forehead to forehead)

Whanau means extended family – they are all responsible for raising the children The idea is similar to that of African tribes – “it takes a village to raise a child,” meaning all tribal members are responsible for the children.
