Characters are important to the plot of a story. 2. Knowing the character helps the reader understand the story and the conflict. 3. It makes the story more interesting. 1. Characters are important to the plot of a story. 2. Knowing the character helps the reader understand the story and the conflict. 3. It makes the story more interesting.

A flat character is one who has only a few character traits. They can be described in one or two words. They tend to be minor characters and serve a specific purpose to the story. A round character is one has many different character traits. They are much like a real person and have a fully developed personality. Many times the protagonist and antagonist are round characters.

Character Traits: Sample Character Traits honest caring selfish sloppy brave determined You try it! Brainstorm in your group and come up with some other character traits. They should describe some aspect of the character’s personality or physical appearance.
