Location PEI is a province in Canada. Is one of the 4 Atlantic provinces. PEI is the smallest province in the country. It is located to the north of Nova Scotia. New Brunswick is west of PEI. PEI is surrounded by the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The Northumberland Straight separates from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Population largest Charlottetown is the city in PEI. PEI is home to the Micmaq. 135,000 Canadians live there. People originally came from Western Europe and Britain.

Charlettown PEI is the birthplace of confederation. In 1873 PEI joined Canada. MikMaq were the first settlers in PEI. In 1784, Charlettown became the capital city. Charlettown is the home of Ann of Green Gables.

Farming PEI has red soil and very warm temperatures. Potatoes are the main crop on the island. It has the largest potato crop in Canada. There are 2,200 farms. Irish moss found on the island contains carcinogens.

Fishing PEI has the largest fishing industry in Canada. Fishing includes herring, mussels, tuna, clams, scallops and mackerel.

Fast Facts Charlettown is the capital city. The main flower is the lady slipper. The main tree is the northern red oak. PEI is surrounded by the Atlantic ocean and the Gulf of the St. Lawrence. PEI is the smallest province in Canada. PEI is famous for: lobster, Irish moss, Anne of Green Gables and potatoes.
