Working with Spreadsheets in Excel Unit portfolio presentation by Nighat Zehra

Unit Summary The project initiates with the idea of working with spreadsheets in Excel. The first phase is the basic understanding of Excel, a theoretical phase. The second phase includes exploring the methods and techniques for how to work in Excel. The third phase comprises of performing some activities like creating Time Table, Date Sheet, Result Sheet, Charts etc in Excel.

My Goals for the course Understand the concept of Spreadsheets in excel. Get to know how to prepare any spreadsheet. Managing data and making calculations.

Gauging Student Need Assessment – Purpose of the Assessment – To gather information about what students already know about Excel. – What I want to learn from my students? – I want to find out whether my students know any technique for creating spreadsheets. – How the assessment information helps me and my students plan for upcoming activities in the unit? – This assessment will help me know the skills and knowledge they have about the Excelsoftware. This will help me to design different activities for them. This assessment will also motivate students to start exploring the unit topic

Goals for my students At the end of this project, Students will be able to: Define Spreadsheet and know the Purpose of Spreadsheet. Explain workbook and worksheet. Get familiar with the Excel application window. Create a spreadsheet such as student result sheet, Salary Report and monthly report of expenses. Apply borders and shading to a cell/range of cells. Insert new rows and columns. Use chart wizard to insert a column chart, line chart and pie chart. Save a spreadsheet.

Assessment Summary The first phase of assessment comprises of the test of the concepts. The students will have to submit their reports after every activity they perform. The activities include understanding of spreadsheet software, performing activities making spreadsheets in Excel. At the final stage of the project making some application in Excel e.g result sheet, Time Table etc.
