Level of Effectiveness of Inclusive Education Program: Basis for a Model SPED Center in Makati by: Riza B. Formilleza

Introduction All children, including those with disabilities, have a right to education. This right is included in Philippine Law in the Magna Carta for Persons With Disabilities (1992), and in international law in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities (UNCRPD), ratified in the Philippines in However the Department of Education reports that only 2% of disabled children in the Philippines are currently able to access educational opportunities. Of those who do access education, drop- out rates are high because of the barriers of accessibility and discrimination they face.

Introduction Nowadays disabilities become a barrier for a child to learn and to study in a normal school specifically, those children with ASD. Autism or ASD is one of five neurodevelopment disorders under the umbrella of Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD). Autism is associated with three primary behavioral characters: 1) Delays in communication, 2) repetitive and stereotypic behavior patterns, and 3) delays in speech and language abilities.

Introduction Special Education is based on the assumption that all children are special and should receive a good education in order to develop their potential to become full, active and contributing members of society. We must look at how the system can better serve all children, including children with special needs who require special education and related services if they are to realize their full potential.

Scope and Delimitation The proposed research entitled: “Level of Effectiveness of Inclusive Education Program: Basis for a model SPED center in Makati.” This research study will involve the elementary school administrators, teachers and parents in Makati under inclusive education program. This study will focus on describing the perception of the respondents of the study to the level of effectiveness of inclusive education program which will serve as a basis for model SPED center in Makati.

Research Design This research will use quantitative design specifically the descriptive method of research. Tan (2006), stated that quantitative research manipulates and control research situation and verify results, using empirical data gathered through the senses. The type of method chosen by the researcher is concerned with the conditions of relationship that exists; practices that prevail; processes that are going on; effects that are being felt; or trends that are developing.

Data Gathering Procedures Research Instrument The instruments to be used by the researcher are questionnaires and unstructured interview. The Questionnaire The items included in the questionnaire will be done as simple as possible so as to ensure better understanding by the respondents. The items will be derived by the researcher based from her readings and consultation with her adviser.

Data Gathering Procedures The questionnaire will be formulated through the use of different reading materials such as dissertation, theses, books and internet articles. This will be done to help the researcher come up with good and appropriate questionnaire for the study. Validation of the Questionnaire The researcher will make the necessary modification with the help of her English critic together with the researcher’s adviser in order to come up with the final questionnaire.

Statistical Treatment of Data The data gathered from the questionnaires will be analyzed and quantified using: Frequency Count Percentage Weighted Mean Anova

Inclusive Education has been implemented nowadays in selected schools in Makati City that’s why there is a need to understand the call for inclusion.... that it is an intervention with assistance. Thus, it needs support to be able to work. But the question is, what are the processes these schools underwent before the success of inclusive education. As a fact, it is a win-win solution. It addresses the discrimination and at the same time the needs of children with special needs to access quality education. To End...
