The process of developing the Profiles In the pre-phase of PTDP, the Profiles have been developed by University of Melbourne + Institute of Education Science ( ) In the beginning of PTDP, the Profiles have been developed by the consultants of Component A (9 - 12/2002) The first outline on the Profiles - 6 strands - 45 requirements - 4 levels The Profile Draft (the first) (13/12/2002) - 3 strands - 21 requirements - 3 levels The Profile Draft (the second) (17/1/2003) - 3 strands - 18 requirements - 3 levels Workshop with the office of government, the board of central education science, ministries, press (12/ /2003)

Primary Teacher Professional Profiles in Vietnam  Requirement 1: Have the love for the country and socialism; implement the duty of citizen  Requirement 2: Love, respect, and equally treat to all students, protect the legal right of students  Requirement 3: Love profession, self-train on personality, reputation, and confidence of teachers; be responsible, operative, and disciplinary  Requirement 4: Be interested in self-studying, self- training to enrich the personality, political knowledge, and professional skills; be responsible for self-training on health The requirements on personality, political ideal (cont)

Primary Teacher Professional Profiles in Vietnam  Requirement 5: Have standardized basic knowledge which has been trained to teach the subjects in the curriculum  Requirement 6: Have necessary knowledge of pedagogic and aged psychology, primary education, and exclusive education for disable children; be good at foreign language and informatics  Requirement 7: Understand about policies of the Party and the State  Requirement 8: Have common understandings about environmental education, population, army security, traffic safety, right and duty of children, school healthcare, drug protection, social evils  Requirement 9: Have understandings about political, economic, culture-social and educational situation of the localities where teachers work The requirements on knowledge (cont)

Finalize and apply the Profiles Use the Profiles as one of important basis to develop the following documents: 1.The framework program for training primary teachers at college level (issued on 6/04); 2.The upgrading program for training primary teachers who graduated from teacher training schools with college level (issued on 8/04); 3.The framework program for training at university level (on the way to submit for issue); 4.Design 30 modules of pre- and in-service training for primary teachers (finalized 24 modules); 5.Study and apply the Profiles on training primary teachers in TTIs (finalized 30 research topics); (cont)

Finalize and apply the Profiles 6.Criteria for assessing teachers’ teaching period (used in the competition of selecting good teachers in primary schools at central level); 7.Design the set of quality accreditation standards for primary teacher training programs (on the way to submit for issue); 8.Design 3 titles and professional standards of 3 titles (sent to Department of Personnel Organization); 9.Design the requirements of assessing and clarifying the professional skills of primary teachers (on the way of designing); 10.Design the principles of primary schools (on the way of designing).
