Web Based Account  Web based accounts can be accessed using a web browser.  You send text messages and also digital files such as images, audio and video attached with the message.

Advantages of  messages are sent instantly.  The cost for an Internet Service Provider often includes service.  Web mail is usually free.  One message can be sent to multiple recipients.  is accessible anywhere, anytime.

Address An address consists of 3 parts: 1. Username (selected by the owner) sign (distinguish from a web address) 3. Domain name (company providing the service) 1 23

Logging into your Account  First part before sign  Unique and identifies the name of the user  Use to log in to your account along with your password Username

Logging into your Account  Allows only you access to your account  Choose a password that is not easy to guess Password

Using your Account  Inbox – The folder to view delivered messages  Compose – Create a message to send  Delete – Delete an message Primary, Social and Promotions tabs are specific to Gmail:  Primary – your main messages inbox  Social – messages related to social media (Facebook, Twitter)  Promotions – messages from businesses offering coupons, deals or other information

Composing  Address – An address that someone has to type in the “to” field so that a message can be sent.  CC Field – All recipients are aware of who has been copied in on the .  BCC Field – can be used when you don’t want the recipient to know who else has received a copy.  When ready to send your message, click the Send button.

Receiving  Reply – To send a message back to the person who sent it, with a new message added.  Forward – To pass a message that you have received to another person.  Delete – Deleting an open message.

Spam  Electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup postings.  Unwanted messages, usually trying to sell something.  Three main components: anonymity, mass mailing and unsolicited.
