Hyperactive subtype: - Fidgeting or squirming - Getting up frequently to walk around - Difficultly playing quietly - Running or climbing at inappropriate times - Excessive talking
Inattentive Subtype: - Inability to sustain attention on tasks - Making careless mistakes - Frequent shifts from one uncompleted activity to another -Procrastination -Disorganized work habits -Forgetfulness in daily activities
Becomes difficult to learn new things Disorganization causes misplacement of valued objects Difficulty making new friends A feeling of isolation

Medications: ◦ Stimulants – The best known and most widely used treatment. ◦ Nonstimulants – Approved for treating ADHD in Fewer side effects than stimulants and can last up to 24 hours.
Behavioral Therapy ◦ Helps child change behavior ◦ Teaches child monitor behavior ◦ Teaches child to praise himself/herself after acting a desired way ◦ Best if therapy aided by parent or teacher
