Equations and Inequalities Solving Equations To solve more complex equations, it is usually easier to follow a certain order. We first want to combine all like terms. Next we want to perform any operations necessary to combine all variables on the same side of the equal sign. We then want to perform any addition or subtraction necessary to solve the equation. And finally we want to perform any multiplication or division necessary to solve the equation. FHS Equations and Inequalities
