Arrival 4:10-4:20 START  Identify which table your students are at  Review folders and items in basket  Pick out 1-2 “Just Right” books for students Goal***Take time, discuss, and enjoy.*** Only complete what time allows. Welcome 4:20-4:30 Welcome your student; engage students in conversations about their day Homework As much time as needed HOMEWORK  Check backpack for homework and spelling words  Use “Spanish Connection” person in your room  Double check homework for accuracy and ask staff for help if needed Remaining time Monday Read Math Tuesday Math Read Wednesday Writing Reading Math Instructions: READ  A to Z Reading book and Just Right books  Focus on Comprehension using the “Comprehension Questions” in folder MATH  Flash cards  Math Games Writing  Journal in student folders Tutor Logs 5:30-5:35 COMPLETE  Tutor Log Entry  Name of game played in the tutor log entry Riverside Educational Center- Daily Lesson Plan

Student stuck on a word *Stay relaxed. Ask the child to think about what would make sense in the sentence. What would sound right and/or look right. Alternatives to “sound it out” *Wait 3-5 seconds *Point to the picture *Tap the start of the sentence and say “try that again.” Sometimes going back and rereading helps the child keep the meaning in their head. *Say the first part of the word and think what would make sense. Picking the right book *Star system *Easier books are better than harder

Paired Reading *Sit side by side with your student and begin reading aloud together *Move your finger along under the words as you both read. *If the student gains confidence, turn your voice off and let him read as long as he is comfortable. Comprehension *See comprehension questions in the folder *Take your time. Relax and enjoy the engagement. Do’s and Don’ts Make the experience a pleasant one. Be positive. Make sure the book is well matched to the student’s ability. Do not let a student struggle with a book that is too difficult. Praise good performance, but not over the top.

Math Tutoring Suggestions Give the student time to process the question and strategies of getting to an answer. DO NOT GIVE THE STUDENT THE ANSWER. Ask them how their teacher explained it. Make sure you are using “Investigations thinking” to solve the problem. Do not use traditional algorithm methods unless that is the homework. Utilize the Investigations books in the room if having difficulty or ask staff for assistance. Writing Blank journals in folders and writing prompts in baskets.

PBS (Positive Behavior Support) Emergency Procedures

I will notify a staff member in advance if I cannot attend a tutoring session. *To communicate with REC staff in regards to any challenges and/or experiences as a tutor. *To remember my role model status at all times. *To support and encourage Positive Behavior with students. *To immediately report to the Program Coordinator any suspicions a student is being abused or neglected. *To use appropriate touching and expressions of affection with students (handshakes, one arm hugs, and high-fives, pats on shoulder/upper back. No lifting or carrying students). *To always be in view of another adult when with a student. *To keep my relationship with any student to REC activities only. Volunteers will not socialize, associate, or provide services (such as babysitting, etc.) for children outside of REC. There will be no exceptions unless first approved by the Director of the Riverside Educational Center. _____ To not use, possess, or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs during the hours of the REC program. _____
