 child ownership  low ages  saturation  connection  free and open source

 GLPC is a government initiative founded by the late honorable Baah Wiredu  GLPC has pilots in 2 schools, with class 4 pupils in:  Kanda cluster of schools, urban  Bonsaaso primary school, rural

One Laptop per Child In 2009,OLPC launched OLPCorps Africa Movement which equipped teams of students from around the world with 100 laptops, training & financial support to expand learning in Africa for kids ages 6-12

OLCorps Ghana was founded in 2009 by teams of students who partook in the OLPC African Movement. OLPCorps Ghana has three (3) deployments in Ghana: Agogo Kade Bonsaaso

I.Develop ability of school pupils to employ computers in performing everyday tasks and solving everyday problems from a very young age; II.Enhance pupils’ access to information, as well as to knowledge and learning outside the classroom; III.Enhance pupils’ ability to demonstrate problems, give feedback on pupil work and construct assessment materials that are adapted to the individual; IV.Provide poor children with the same opportunities for learning as wealthy families give to their children  Specific objectives: 1. Teach children to use computers for everyday tasks & to solve problems; 2. Give children access to information & learning outside the classroom; 3. Give teachers tools to demonstrate problems, provide feedback & assess progress; 4. Give poor children same opportunities for learning as rich children

 Sealed rubberized keyboard, scaled to child-size hands  Weighs only 3lbs – lighter than a lunchbox  Transforms into e-book reader  Built-in function for still & video photography, voice recording & game playing  Built-in Wi-Fi capability  Mesh network for communal sharing & collaborating w/no external telecom infrastructure  Can be solar/foot powered  No hard drive to crash, and only 2 internal cables  Sunlight-readable screen

Education is a basic human right and the key for full human, social, economic and democratic development. The gaps in equity in education and subsequent opportunity are increasing. Children do not lack capability, it is opportunity and resources. The best preparation for children is to develop a passion for education and learning and the ability to learn how to learn.

With 1:1 access to connected laptops, children actively engage in their own learning and are no longer passive recipients of information. A laptop is the most flexible learning tool. It allows children to be creative and productive and fit into today’s digital world. Children can take ownership and express themselves by writing stories, taking pictures, making movies, exploring scientific phenomena, inventing learning games, or solving mathematical problems.
