Superior Engineering The Private Property Virtual Library is a database of private property program-related resource materials available on property featuring “successful” utility programs. Data was/is collected from utilities for others to share. Documentation includes ordinances, fact sheets, design details, and specifications. Details regarding WEF Collection System’s Committee actions and initiatives will be discussed. Ms. Hawley earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Marquette University and her Master’s Degree in Civil Environmental Engineering from the University of Texas. She has 26 years of experience and is a registered Professional Engineer and a Certified WWTP Operator, Grade IV, in the State of Wisconsin. She has been the Chair of the WEF Collection System Committee since 2008.

Central States Water Environment Association 2009 Collections Seminar June 11, 2009 Collection System Seminar 9:10 – 9:40 Low Pressure Sewer Systems Bob Jordan Fluid and Thermal Systems The history and application of Low Pressure Sanitary Sewer Systems will be reviewed. Design criteria, hydraulic design software, application techniques, and installation methods and procedures of LPSS will be detailed. Mr. Jordan has 35 years of experience in the pumping industry. This includes extensive background in the commercial/industrial/municipal market as both a contractor and supplier representative. He has been responsible for the sale and oversight of over 13,200 grinder pump stations in Indiana/Ohio/Illinois/Kentucky since 1998 and is responsible for the “Low Pressure Sewer System” training program approved by EDEM for CEU’s since 2000.

Trotter and Associates, Inc. The Village of Port Barrington has recently installed a low pressure sewer system including nearly 100 grinder pump units. The use of this technology has allowed the Village to sewer an area in and around the Fox River Floodway and Floodplain that had experienced a significant amount of failing septic systems. Mr. Bushnell earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Marquette University and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the States of Illinois and Wisconsin. He has over 14 years of experience as a municipal engineer and consultant. 10:10 – 10:30 Break

Central States Water Environment Association 2009 Collections Seminar June 11, 2009 Collection System Seminar 10:30 – 11:00 Chemical Grouting Harold Kosova National Power Rodding The use of chemical grout has evolved over the past 50 years to include a number of applications in sanitary sewer collection systems. There are several technologies that can be utilized to rehabilitate pipe and it can be argued that there are many applications where rehabilitation with chemical grout is more beneficial and economical than other alternatives. Mr. Kosova is the President of National Power Rodding Corp. and has been a member of the Carylon Corporation since He has been at the forefront of the development of closed circuit sewer inspection and trenchless technology, including the design and development of in-line pressure chemical grouting.

Central States Water Environment Association 2009 Collections Seminar June 11, 2009 Collection System Seminar 11:00 – 11:30 Chemical Grout Case Study, DGSD Derek Wold, P.E. Baxter & Woodman There are a number of methods available for rehabilitating sanitary sewer systems, including open cut replacement, cured-in-place pipe (lining), slip- lining, pipe bursting, and grouting. Knowing when to utilize each of these methods is essential to a successful rehabilitation program. This presentation will focus on the use of chemical grout to rehabilitate manholes, sanitary sewer mains and laterals. Chemical grouting is used to prevent infiltration from entering sewer joints, lateral connections and manholes. A review of specifications, testing, and inspection of chemical grouting will be provided. Flow data and I/I reduction from a case study that included grouting of an entire flow basin will be reviewed. Mr. Wold earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois and his Masters in Environmental Engineering from IIT. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois and has worked for Baxter & Woodman since 1996 where he is currently the Wastewater Department Manager.

Central States Water Environment Association 2009 Collections Seminar June 11, 2009 Collection System Seminar 11:30 – 12:00 Flow Metering EJ Bukowski (GAI)/Bob Glenn (Teledyne Isco) Flow metering equipment can be used to diagnose problems in the collection system as well as evaluate the impact of a maintenance program’s effectiveness. This presentation details the use of flow metering equipment in both temporary and permanent installations and chronicles how metering equipment has become an invaluable part of a successful CMOM program. Mr. Bukowski earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University and has been with GAI for 7 years as a sales engineer. Mr. Glenn earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nebraska and is the Western Region sales manager for Teledyne Isco for the past 10 years. 12:00 – 12:45 Lunch (Provided)

Central States Water Environment Association 2009 Collections Seminar June 11, 2009 Collection System Seminar 12:45 – 1:15 Lift Station Assessment and Maintenance Tony Conn, Wastewater Collection & Pumping Supervisor City of Naperville Presentation will review the City of Naperville’s policy on lift station safety as well as maintenance of controls, pumps, wet wells and air valves. Also using City Works to track maintenance records and equipment repair cost. Mr. Conn is a certified IEPA Collection System Operator, with NASSCO PACP certifications with 19 years of collection system experience, 17 with the City of Naperville. He is currently responsible for 30 lift stations, 478 miles of sanitary sewer, and 11,000 manholes serving nearly 41,000 customers.

Discussion regarding the evolution of root control, with emphasis on the implementation of root control programs. Mr. Nelson earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Northern Illinois University and has nearly 20 years of experience in root control and collection system rehabilitation industry. His family has three generations in the wastewater industry.

Central States Water Environment Association 2009 Collections Seminar June 11, 2009 Collection System Seminar 1:45 – 2:15 Water is Life/Central States WEA Gary Scott Glenbard Wastewater Authority Illinois Section President – Central States WEA The Water Is Life and Infrastructure Makes it Happen program was developed by WEF to raise awareness for the critical need for significant investment in the rehabilitation and upgrade of wastewater collection and treatment systems in the United States over the next 10 to 15 years. The program was designed to be implemented at the state and local levels by the respective Water Environment Associations, including CSWEA. This presentation will review the key objectives of the Water Is Life program and highlight a number of tools that are available for educating various constituencies, including political representatives and utility customers. Mr. Scott is the current Illinois Section Chair for CSWEA and is the liaison to WEF’s Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
