SWBAT… 1. Explain how geography and history are linked. 2. Identify the methods that anthropologist and archaeologist use to find out about early people. 3. Describe the ways historians try to reconstruct the past.

Activating prior Knowledge 1. Why do you think people tend to build settlements near rivers?

River Valley CivilizationsReasons  Fertile land  Water attracted animals that provided a source of food.  People could use water for drinking, travel and irrigation.

What do you think would some drawbacks might be to building civilization in river valleys?

 We are going to discuss the work of geographers, historians, anthropologist, archaeologist, and others in uncovering the past, for the next couple of lessons we will examine life in the stone age and the beginning of civilization in the Middle East and elsewhere.
