The Debate over whether same sex marriage should be legal is one of the greatest debates of the 2000s. Some feel gay marriage is wrong and It goes against Christian beliefs. Others feel people should be able to marry whoever they love.

As of the 2011-2012 Support Poll 10 States Allow same sex marriage 5 States Allow Civil Unions 34 have constitutional provisions prohibiting 3 states have no provisions for or against.

Statisticians suspect that by 2014 Gay marriage will be Supported by a majority of Americans. Although there are still some states where a man or women can be fired from a job solely because of their sexual orientation.

Benefits Legalization of Gay Marriage would have several benefits such as: ~Increased Adoption Rate – Since it is impossible for procreation the adoption rate would rise if couples were desiring children. ~Financial Benefits- Taxes are higher while single then when with a spouse. Deductions can be made from taxes for house payments or children as well. ~Medical Decision Priority- When one person becomes ill the spouse is often turned to for making decisions. ~Insurance – Marriage or family benefits apply to house, car and health insurance rates.

Supporting arguments ~Denying Same sex couples the right to marry violates their rights as a U.S citizen. ~The latest scientific experimentation has shown that homosexuality is determined by a persons genetics not choice. ~They deserve to be treated the same as every other human being

~Gay marriage is protected by the Constitution's commitments to liberty and equality. ~If marriage is about reproduction, then infertile couples would not be allowed to marry. ~It would diminish teen suicide less children would be scared at the thought of coming out and would feel comfortable with themselves.

Opposing arguments ~Homosexuality is morally wrong. ~It goes against the religious faith that our American society is based on. ~Children benefit more from being raised in a home with a mother and father ~It will open the door for other crazy behavior to become legal.

Marriage has always been a covenant between a man and a woman. ~Whenever one violates the natural moral order established by God, one sins and offends God. Same-sex “marriage” does just this. ~Gay marriages do not contribute as much to child raising as straight marriages.

Its our ignorance that leads us to Believe same sex marriage is wrong. We should show more understanding Of homosexuality.

I chose to do my presentation on Gay Marriage because it something I am passionate about and means a lot to me. I have personally seen my friend grow up with the difficulties of having to come out to friends and family. And deal with the judgment of who he happens to be attracted to. I hope one day it will no longer bean issue to discuss and people of all races and genders have the option to marry who they love.
