Chancellor’s Responsibilities The Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents is charged by the Ohio General Assembly with the responsibility for approving academic programs at public institutions of higher education authorizing independent (not-for-profit and for-profit) institutions and out-of-state institutions to provide academic credit in Ohio. The Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents has the authority to approve all educator preparation programs, including degree programs, licensure programs, and endorsement programs. (Source: ORC )

Chancellor’s Responsibilities Ohio public institutions are expected to maintain academic programs and courses that are consistent with Ohio’s articulation and transfer policies maximize the opportunities for students to begin study anywhere in the University System of Ohio with guaranteed transfer and articulation within the system.

General Education General education is required within every undergraduate degree and is guided by a mission and specific learning outcomes. General education requirements reflect the degree designation (e.g., applied associate degree vs. academic associate degree; bachelor of arts vs. bachelor of science). At a minimum, general education comprises no less than 36 semester hours for baccalaureate degrees and academic associate degrees and no less than 15 semester hours for applied associate degrees. The general education curriculum should reflect the breadth of study found in the Ohio Transfer Module (the minimum number of hours in each general education area for baccalaureate, academic associate and applied associate degrees are outlined in Appendix C):

General Education General education includes a focus on “21st-Century” skills and knowledge, including: Knowledge of human cultures and the physical and natural world Intellectual and practical skills including: inquiry and analysis; critical and creative thinking, oral and written communication, quantitative literacy, information literacy; teamwork and problem solving Personal and social responsibility, including civic knowledge and engagement, intercultural knowledge and competence, ethical reasoning and action; and foundations and skills for lifelong learning

Ohio Transfer Module (OTM) The Ohio Transfer Module contains semester hours of coursework in general education. It is a subset or the complete set of general education requirements at each college or university. In order for general education courses to be a part of an institution’s transfer module, all coursework is subject to a review by the statewide transfer module panels against the Ohio Transfer Module Guidelines and learning outcomes. Each transfer module must include a minimum of 24 semester hours of approved OTM courses as outlined in the Ohio Transfer Module Guidelines below, and the remaining semester hours must also contain approved coursework distributed among the following five categories: English Composition and Oral Communication (e.g., First Writing, Second Writing, Public Speaking) – at least 3 hours Mathematics and Data Analysis (e.g., College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, Calculus, Statistics, Formal/Symbolic Logic) – at least 3 hours Arts and Humanities (e.g., Art History, Ethics, American History, Literature, Philosophy, Religion, Ethnic or Gender Studies) – at least 6 hours Social and Behavioral Sciences (e.g., Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology - at least 6 hours Natural Sciences (e.g., Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology, Physical Geography, Physics) – at least 6 hours

Transfer Assurance Guidelines In order to maximize the transferability and applicability of credits, each college or university may include Transfer Assurance Guide (TAG) approved courses to meet the requirements beyond the Ohio Transfer Module
