Florida Agriculture in the Classroom How to Write a Volunteer Grant

Due Dates  Applications due March 13, 2015 (postmarked by 3/13/15)  Announcement of awards - April 2015 by  Online Progress report due Friday Dec. 11, 2015  First Half of Funds Request mailed after Progress Report completed.  All funds encumbered and Final Report due Thursday June 30, 2016

Format - Page 1 of Grant  Title of Project : Give it something catchy but not too long  Contact Person and Organization :  Contact Person Organization’s Address :  Contact Phone Number : Can be organization or cell or both  address of Contact Person : Make sure this is correct because this will be our main form of contact. Please give us a second contact if there is someone else helping with the project.  Counties impacted by project:  Amount Requested :  Number of Youth Served :  Age/Grade Level of Students :  Purpose of Project : Why are you doing this project? What are your hoping your students to learn?

Format- Page 1cont. of Grant  Description of Project : This is where you will go into more detail of what your project will entail.  Is this an existing project : YES NO  If yes, specifically identify how the requested funds will improve or expand your current program : Only put this if the answer above is yes

Format- Page 2 of Grant  Description of how Florida Ag in the Classroom curricula and materials will be used: for a list of FAITC materials and lessons please visit faitc.org/teachers  Description of how a local farmer(s) or industry representative(s) will participate: Must include at least one.  Projected outcomes and measurable impact : You will list increased test/quiz scores by what percent from start to finish of project. Will you be growing helping a school start a garden? Will you be bringing student or community awareness about a certain subject, etc? Will you be holding an agventure program?  Statement of need : Is there no funding for extra projects?, etc.

Format- Page 3 of Grant  Page 3 will be in table format and only include budget and timeline.  Budget : Make sure you have the item in the left column, also put where you will be getting it if you know and the price in the right column. At the bottom of the right column include total prices. The table does not have to look exactly like the example just make sure it includes everything. Make sure this budget equals what your requested amount was on Page 1.  In Kind : This will go on your budget below all of your items to buy. This is donated items and time. If you have a master gardener helping put down how many hours they will work during project and multiple that by the price per hour. If you have no in kind you are not eligible for project. Format- Page 3 cont. of Grant  Timeline: This is just an example but make sure it is detailed enough for us to understand how the project will run. AprilComplete project, give post- tests and submit final report

Extras:  Must send 6 copies of the entire application postmarked by March 13 th.  Must collect photo release for each student in photos that you send us. If you need a photo release please and let us know we will provide one.

What grant money can be used for?  This is not an all inclusive list but will give you a good idea.  Garden building supplies  AgVenture Programs  Plants  Fertilizer  Hoses or watering devices  Hydroponic systems and supplies  Embryology Supplies: Incubators and brooder supplies  Aquaculture supplies

What grant money cannot be used for?  Manure, compost  Transportation – unless it is a justifiable need in grant application  Digital Cameras  Curriculum  Gazebos  Consumables – unless food items are an integral part of the lesson plan and end product.  Teacher/Instructor stipends or fees  Miscellaneous items – must list everything out in detail
